Khangas - Wraps for Little Ones, are comfortable and versatile one piece baby carriers. The Khangas wrap can be used for newborns right up through toddlers and can even be used for multiples. Great for carrying newborns, the Khangas wrap can be tied much like a sling over one shoulder. When babywearing for longer periods and for better weight distribution you can utilize some of the many two shoulder carries.

Babywearing is a tradition that has been prevalent in many cultures for centuries. Here are some of the many ways a Khangas wrap can benefit you
  • Hands free – you are going to carry them anyhow so you might as well have use of your hands.
  • Calming – they are in constant contact with your body and are calmed by your motion, heartbeat, breathing, and speaking.
  • Discreet nursing – it is very convenient to nurse while your baby is wrapped on you and nobody will know.
  • Go anywhere – strollers are often difficult to maneuver through stores, beaches, public transit, and the snow just to name a few.
  • Benefits babies with colic, failure to thrive, as well as, premature babies as they receive constant motion, comfort, and nutrition all while wrapped close.
  • Allows parent to be able to focus on other siblings without having to neglect the needs of the baby.
  • Baby is constantly in the action; hearing the sounds and feeling the motions of the caregiver’s daily routine. The baby learns from all that is going on around him.
  • Keeps baby safe and out of harms way.
  • Babywearing enhances the parent-child bond.
  • Reduced chance of postpartum depression due to the calming effect of the constant hormonal stimulation along with the baby’s reduced crying.

Khanga is the Swahili name for the brightly coloured cloth used in Africa for clothing, babywearing, table dressings among many other uses. Traditionally used in matched pairs they often come with a saying printed or stitched into them. We have taken some of the traditional Swahili sayings and translated them to English for our wraps. For ease in wrapping we have marked center of our wraps with a label that bears one of four different sayings. When selecting your wrap be sure to choose which saying you would like.
